The interview with Dr. Nayak proved very insightful for us as we wrapped up the project and began finalizing it. Throughout the conversation, he offered a practitioner's view on how cystic fibrosis should be managed and how an app might assist him as a doctor in making better medical decisions. Dr. Nayak appreciated some of the work Adam Galper helped us with. Still, he provided several notable refinements that make the app easier to use for both the patient and the practitioner. For example, when the symptoms are viewed, our app shows every log the patient has completed. However, a practitioner does not have the time to sort through this, so we implemented a feature where one can filter through the symptoms relevant to their practice. For example, he can select nasal symptoms in the past two weeks because this is what he asks patients as a standard practice. Additionally, implementing a feature for oxygen recording is essential because many patients with CF use oxygen tanks daily. Another feature we implemented was a feature to record sinus rinses, a hallmark of every CF patient's treatment plan. Having functionality for sinus rinses offers this app yet another feature that is not on any other app on the market. Typically (and surprisingly), people track their sinus rinses with a food app.

An important lesson we learned was that in order to have patients reliably use our app, we have to prevent app fatigue. Clicking through many buttons is not pleasurable to anyone, and if you are a patient taking 20 medicines, using this app may start to feel like a chore. Nayak helped us determine which features could be simplified further and which needed more elaboration. However, he helped us ensure that this elaboration was sufficiently spread out to not overwhelm the user. Additionally, he helped us refine our push notifications by giving us the idea that one can select which messages they want to receive and when they wish to receive them. For example, a patient might prefer to see a summary of what is to come the next day, and a different patient might like reminders every 15 minutes to take their medication.

Overall, the interview really aided us in refining our design as we prepared to submit the project and show it to people interested in cystic fibrosis app development. Dr. Nayak's teachings helped us as we linked every page together as well. When one links pages, care has to be taken so that the app's flow is natural to prevent user frustration and then app fatigue. Additionally, Dr. Nayak helped us with our presentation pitch and gave us more information on how to introduce the disease cystic fibrosis to an audience that does not know about it. Overall, we are very grateful to have had the opportunity to interview him and believe it was an important research opportunity for our project.
